There are different ways to make tapered shafts. Below are three different tapered designs. I took pictures of the two different designs by Sir Jon Fitz Rauf. Both blunts are in the same picture, since I though it would make the differences more apparent.

Here are some photos of two different tapered blunts, made by Sir Jon Fitz Rauf. The picture on the left: One is lightened by drilling slots in the sides, the other by drilling inside the blunt. You can see the bottom one has drilled slots in the sides to lighten the weight.

Picture on the right: You can see the one on the right has holes drilled in the inside of the blunt to lighten the weight. Thanks to Sir Jon who sent a couple of samples of his arrows, with both blunts. You can see I took the foam off the head of the one on the right, so you can see the holes.

You can see what a good job Lu-shan did in making these blunts. Thanks Lu-shan for sending me samples of this blunt. Also for letting me use his pictures of them. Notice how he rounded the edges, on the top and the bottom of the blunt. That will help prevent cuts from the edges of the UHMW striking bare flesh (especially on angle shots). It will also make the foam last longer and most likely the tape over the blunt, will last longer as well, since there aren't any sharp or hard edges.
