Golf Tube Nocks

Requirements: Golf tube arrows and bolts have to be reinforced to keep the 1 1/4" diameter. Whichever style of nock is used, it can't be deeper than 1/2". Approved methods use a film cannister, soda bottle cap or Siloflex plug.

Siloflex Plug Instructions: Click here for instructions by Master Erik Erikson the Scout on how to insert a Siloflex plug to make a nock.

You can put a piece of Siloflex 100 psi or 160 psi to reinforce the nock end or you can just cut a notch (not deeper than 1/2") into the nock end of a Siloflex arrow. Reinforcement of the nock end of Siloflex is not required. Siloflex crossbow bolts can be left open. If you cover the opening with duct tape, it helps keep out debris, water, etc. If the end of your bolt or arrow is open, remember to shake it off and/or clean it before shooting it, if you gleaned it off the field.

These pictures show a piece of Siloflex (I call it a Siloflex plug) that was inserted in the nock end of the tube.

These are pictures of a nock that is reinforced by a soda bottle cap. You can see that the depth of the nock slot isn't more than 1/2". If you use these, you should carry extras, since these can break if stepped on. You will also want to use a file to smooth the edges of the "V" cut, since if you don't it will cut your bow string. If you put this in backwards, the solid part of the soda bottle cap being even with the end of the golf tube, then cover it with tape, that works for crossbow bolts.

These are pictures of what the bottle cap should look like before you glue and insert it into the golf tube. You can use wire snips to cut the V nock slot. If you use glue, after it's dried, cut the golf tube to match the soda cap.

These are pictures of the film canister assembly for a crossbow bolt.

Thanks to THL Bartholomew Hightower of Canterbury for taking these photos.

This is an example of an illegal nock. Notice that the nock is cut about 2" deep. Also notice the tube to the left of nock slot is squeezed almost flat. I've seen some people put a rivet or something else to keep that part compressed, that is not legal either, since that will easily enter a helm more than 1/2". It needs to keep as much of the 1 1/4" or so diameter as possible.
