Siloflex Equivalents 1. Be manufactured to ASTM D2239 or ASTM D2737 Standards. These guidelines will allow pipe to be used from a variety of manufacturers and assure that it has a minimum size/thickness and the physical characteristics we desire. When other variants get tested (such as PE3406, other psi, ASTM D3035, larger outer diameters, etc), and approved we will update this page. This specification is often called IPS-ID for Iron Pipe Size-Inside Diameter. ASTM D2737 is a specification for a controlled Outside Diameter or OD. This specification is often called CTS short for Copper Tube Size. It is also sometimes called WST short for Water Service Tubing. Common Material of Manufacture Coiled PE pipe is produced most often from polyethylene resins with the ASTM classification of PE 3408 and PE 3406. Most common for drinking water applications is PE 3408. PE 3406 is not quite as strong and requires a thicker wall to achieve an equivalent pressure rating and will therefore weigh a little more. ***ONLY PIPE THAT IS MADE FROM PE 3408 IS APPROVED FOR USE IN MAKING APDS - PE 3406 IS NOT YET APPROVED FOR USE IN MAKING APDS*** SIDR or IDR IPS pipe sizes produced to the ASTM D2239 standard are rated with a SIDR number or Standard Inside Diameter Ratio. The SIDR is calculated by dividing the Nominal ID by the Minimal Wall Thickness. For any fixed ID a LOWER SIDR number will equate to a thicker wall and a stronger pipe with a higher pressure rating. SODR or SDR OD controlled tubing produced to the ASTM D2737 or D3035 will have a SODR rating. The SIDR is calculated by dividing the Nominal OD by the Minimal Wall Thickness. For any fixed OD a LOWER SODR number will equate to a thicker wall and a stronger pipe with a higher pressure rating. Marking ASTM, NSF, and AWWA standards provide that pipe and tubing must be marked at frequent intervals.
